WHO calls for transparency, fairer prices for medicines globally

World Health Organization (WHO) has called for transparency and fairer prices for medicines globally.

WHO Assistant Director-General for Medicines and Health Products Mariângela Simao has said this at the health Forum on Medicines in Johannesburg.

She said everyone has a right to access quality healthcare.  Ms. Simao said medical innovation has little social value if most people cannot access its benefits.

Health forum also called for greater transparency around the cost of research, development and production of medicines to allow buyers to negotiate more affordable prices.
