On Thursday, PIA (Pakistan International Airline) national flag carrier of Pakistan and Etihad Airways has announced re-launching of codeshare partnership in order to offer customers with clearer routing and have access to un-serviced areas.
The codeshare partnership between PIA and Etihad Airways was re-launched to give access of both airlines to clients, traveling to trunk routes between Pakistan and UAE and across global network of Etihad services. From 26th November, codeshare flights are now open for sale.
Chief Commercial Officer of PIA, Nausherwan Adil said that it is a great time for PIA to come together with Etihad Airways. Etihad Airways is the national flag carrier of Abu Dhabi connecting UAE with Pakistan and all around the glove, and looking forward to access more destinations for the comfort of customers.
He stated further:
“The relationship between Pakistan and United Arab Emirates has always been a strong one and we feel proud to be working closely with our friends at Etihad Airways.”
According the partnership, Etihad Airways will place ‘EY’ code on the services of PIA that are scheduled from Abu Dhabi to Islamabad, Peshawar and Lahore.
PIA will also allow its ‘PK’ code to be placed on the services of Etihad Airways from Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore to Abu Dhabi. PIA will also place its code for onward flights from the UAE to Amsterdam, Colombo, Bahrain, Chicago, Frankfurt, Madrid, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Moscow and Zurich.
The services of PIA would be extended to Athens, Amman, Brisbane, Melbourne, Rome, Nairobi and Sydney waiting for approval of government. Chief Commercial Officer of Etihad Airways Robin Kamark said that “Pakistan and UAE share strong historical, commercial and cultural relationship and this partnership with PIA, as one of the oldest and experienced airlines in Asia, is a natural progression for both carriers”.
Kamark further stated:
“It enables us to cater to the strong customer demand for both point-to-point business and VFR travel between the UAE and major cities in Pakistan, and to provide seamless travel options for the large Pakistani diaspora around the world, connecting through our hub in Abu Dhabi”.
Since November 2004, Etihad Airways has been giving its services to Pakistan and currently operating 2 daily flights to Islamabad from Abu Dhabi, 11 flights to Lahore in a week and daily flight to Karachi. Similarly, for more than three decades, PIA has been serving Abu Dhabi and operates seven flights in a week from Lahore, Peshawar and Islamabad.
