Just as the name implies, intermittent fasting involves
starving for an extended period of time. A lot of studies have found that there
is a lot of benefits in this type of diet though the reason for such health
benefits provided is however still not clear.
An investigation has been done on the impact of such fasting on the circadian clock or the circadian rhythm, more commonly known as the daily sleep–wake cycles. They found that:
1)The circadian rhythm pushes the ebb and flow of human life
2)It also controls much more than just the sleepiness levels
3)It influences the physiological, metabolic, and behavioral changes in a 24-hour cycle and
4)It also impacts every tissue of your body.
Diabetes which has become a common first world problem can also be reduced by intermittent fasting. Studies has been done which shows that intermittent fasting limits insulting production in the body. Moreover, the fasting cycle promotes the production of insulin-producing beta cells by restoring insulin secretion and help people control sugar level.
Not only diabetes but many major inflammatory conditions in our body can also be prevented / reduced by intermittent fasting. Fasting encourages your body to release ghrelin (the hunger hormone) that does not only reduce inflammation but also combat the risks of diseases associated with it. Moreover, intermittent fasting also prevents the development of inflammatory proteins called cytokines.
This also has religious basis. Some companions of the Holy
Prophet (P.B.U.H) narrate that He (P.B.U.H) also used to insist on intermittent
fasting and used to tell them about the its benefits. He (P.B.U.H) himself used
to do twice and a week and also during the whole month of Ramadan. Some
scholars explain this as there are some continuous inflammatory processes going
inside the human body which cause damage to certain body tissues and can also
cause necrosis of body tissues. When a person fasts intermittently, the hunger
systems get activated and the body senses low levels of fuel and food and due
to which he body starts eating itself. But nature surprises, in doing so, the
body does not eat its healthy tissues, it only eats diseased, damaged and
necrosed tissues of the body thus helping the body to get rid of the diseases
tissues thus preventing many inflammatory and even cancerous diseases.
It is fascinating how by avoiding food for a while your body will be reaped with so much benefits.
A lot more research is needed to find many more health benefits by intermittent fasting and more people need to be aware of the benefits of intermittent fasting through various modes of communication. Both religion and science prove the benefits of intermittent fasting that are not deniable.
Bottom line is you may find various short cuts to lose weight. However, it is unlikely that you will improve your overall via opting for crash diets. With intermittent fasting, you can fight health-damaging factors, shed extra fats promoting longevity at the same.
